As the 2019 year draws to a close and the Thanksgiving holiday arrives, we at The Chateaux Deer Valley are reflecting on the past year and looking forward to the start of the winter season. From you, our guests, to our hardworking staff, we have so much to be thankful for.
Snow and the Upcoming Winter Season
While we love all of the seasons, there is something special about winter in Park City. The trees are topped with white pillows and lights while the mountains are blanketed in fresh snow inviting us to dream of crisp corduroy and deep powder. Snow provides a picturesque scene and allows us to participate in some of our favorite winter activities: Skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, and horse drawn sleigh rides. At Deer Valley Resort, the snow making machines have been hard at work when the temperatures are low enough to ensure the runs are ready for opening day on December 7th.
Condé Nast Traveler Award
This year, we are honored and thankful to announce that The Chateaux was ranked #7 on Condé Nast’s Top 30 Resorts in The West: Readers’ Choice Awards 2019. When we receive an award like this from readers and guests, we are humbled that we have met and exceeded expectations. Awards like this inspire us to work ever harder to make The Chateaux a place where guests want to return time after time.
Our Dedicated Staff
It is our hardworking and dedicated staff who help us earn and maintain our Forbes Four-Star rating. They are always looking out for the best interest of each guest, providing highly anticipatory yet authentic service. We are thankful for the knowledgeable, friendly, and experienced team at The Chateaux. They truly make our hotel a great place to work and visit.
Our Fabulous Guests
Most of all, we are thankful for our guests. We thank each of you for allowing us to serve you, for coming back year after year, and for making The Chateaux such a special place. Each guest enhances our hotel and motivates us to reach new heights in customer service and satisfaction. Thank you! And we look forward to continuing to serve you throughout the upcoming winter season.
The winter ski season is right around the corner with Deer Valley Resort opening for the 2019/2020 season on December 7th. As this date is rapidly approaching, we had a chat with Steve Graff, the Director of Mountain Operations at Deer Valley Resort to get an idea of what to expect this upcoming winter season.
For the 19/20 ski season, Deer Valley has invested almost $8 million dollars to enhance the guest experience. Most of these funds went to Steve Graff’s mountain operations team. We asked him what these funds went to and what we can expect when hitting the slopes next month. In short, the largest part of the funds went to new RFID technology gates. Additional funds were used to purchase around 25 more energy efficient snow guns and 4 new snowcats to provide the best possible experience for guests on the mountain.
Deer Valley installed 18 RFID gates this year, and according to Steve, it’s the largest single resort installment Access has ever done. “That is wrapping up right now and we’re in the testing mode and they appear to be working well. We were able to test them in the summer. We put them on our summer lifts and they ran without any problems.” The addition of the new RFID gates enables skiers to go straight to the lifts to start their day of skiing. No more waiting in line to pick up a lift ticket if you purchased a season pass or multi-day pass.
Additionally, the mountain ops team invested in new snowmaking technology and snowmaking enhancements. The mountain ops team has been hard at work throughout the summer replacing thousands of snowmaking pipe. Plus, Steve informed us that, “We purchased right around 25 more energy efficient snow guns which enables us to make snow over a broader range of temperatures and more efficiently while consuming less power and energy, so that’s great.” It is great, and in fact, just a few weeks ago when Park City experienced multiple days of low temperatures, the snow makers were able to complete somewhere around 9 runs in a week. It’s still too early to tell how much of the resort will be open on opening day, but if Mother Nature gifts us with low temperatures again, Steve and his team will be able to get even more runs ready to go.
Deer Valley acquired 4 new snowcats this year to help maintain the freshest corduroy all across the mountain. As Steve puts it, “All of that just goes to making a more efficient quality product.” Deer Valley Resort is often ranked as one of the best resorts in the world, and these new mountain operations investments help ensure that they maintain this prestigious status.
Bonus: Glade Skiing
For those skiers who prefer off-piste runs through the trees, there’s good news here too. Toward the end of our conversation, Steve mentioned that throughout the summer, a team of 7 sawyers maintained Deer Valley’s forests. They did this for the health of the forest, but as a result, the tree areas of the resort got a whole summer’s worth of attention. This attention opened up some new shots and cleared up existing lines for some new and enhanced off-piste skiing.
As an added benefit to guests and to help keep things moving smoothly across the entire resort, at every base area and ticket locations, there will be digital, real-time signage providing information on weather, grooming conditions, and lift status to keep guests informed before they hit the slopes. This way, guests know what to expect before booting up and can decide if they want to wait a bit in the lodge or go straight up to their favorite runs.
Put simply, guests at Deer Valley Resort this season can expect an enhanced experience thanks to a solid snow base, smooth groomed trails, and real-time information to stay informed throughout the resort. Discover this enhanced guest experience yourself and stay with us at The Chateaux this winter season. Book your stay with our Winter Activities package and enjoy a winter retreat mere steps from Deer Valley Resort.
