Playful aspen leaves dance in a gentle summer breeze, as if moved by the sweet musical stylings of homegrown musicians. The annual Hops on the Hill returns for another beautiful summer season. Featuring eight consecutive weeks of local craft beer tastings, savory food pairings, and free outdoor concerts.
This local event is held every Tuesday at Stein Eriksen Lodge from July 9th through August 27th. Visiting guests flock to Park City and Deer Valley each year for destination weddings and legendary summer mountain vacations, but Hops on the Hill feels more like a tribute to locals. The tranquil ambiance is elegant yet laid back. Kids play in the grass, while old friends come together to spend carefree summer nights on the deck.
Stein Collection Corporate Chef and Vice President of Food and Beverage Operations, Zane Holmquist, carefully crafts small bites to pair with each brewery’s unique ales, lagers, stouts, and malts. You can find him on the deck chatting with attendees and serving his team’s tasty creations. For Chef Zane, Hops on the Hill is a special event series. He describes it as an opportunity to experience “the more casual side of Stein’s.”
Each week, the event features two local breweries and a live, local band. The passionate brewers take pride in sharing their craft and their delectable brews. They are happy to describe the complexities of flavor found in each distinct beer. Combined with Stein Eriksen Lodge’s food pairings, the evening offers a unique opportunity to indulge in a variety of taste sensations.
Guests seeking a more casual dining experience are encouraged to come relax on the lawn, enjoy the free concert, and order from the à la carte grill and bar. Chef Zane welcomes everyone to bring their neighbors, friends, and kids up to have a great time. There is truly something for everyone!

Summer operations began on June 14th with the lower section of the resort, from Bald Eagle to Snow Park Lodge, open to mountain biking. Due to conditions, Bald Mountain is only open for scenic chair rides at this time. Operating chairlifts include Silver Lake Express, Homestake Express, and Sterling Express. Twilight Series returns with lift operations running into Tuesday evenings from 4pm to 8pm. Trails on Bald Mountain will open as conditions allow. The Deer Valley staff is putting in their best effort to accelerated the snow melt.
The highlight of this summer season is the completed construction of the new trail, Undertow, offering an alternative route down the mountain from the top of Homestake Express to the base of the resort, Snow Park Lodge. Undertow a 3.5 mile, single-track trail, with berm turns and rollers. This is the 4th trail built over the last 4 years.
Also new this season, is the RFID ticketing system, which will be tested throughout the summer in preparation for the busier winter season. Daily tickets are $25; however, discounted tickets are being sold until all mountain biking trails are opened. Season passes are available for $425.
Another exciting inaugural activity available this season at Deer Valley Resort is the afternoon E-Bike Tours available from 2pm to 5pm daily. It’s a cool, new way to navigate the trails of the resort. The cost of the tour, including the bike, is $150 per rider and group size will range from 1 to 12 riders. Reservations are encouraged. Please note: E-Bike Riding is not permitted without a guided tour.
Deer Valley Concerts continue this summer and feature over 30 different artists and musicians between the free weekly Wednesday shows, the Utah Symphony Musical Festival, and the Grand Valley Bank Community Concert Series. Visit www.deervalley.com/things-to-do/activities/concerts to see the full lineup.
From hiking and biking, to horseback riding and Stand Up Paddle Boarding, the summer activities provided by Deer Valley Resort are not to be missed.
For many of our guests, a summer stay in Deer Valley means days are spent exploring its well-groomed trail system. Mountain biking and hiking take center stage, providing the opportunity to experience 400 miles of some of the most pristine and awe-inspiring vistas in the world. Yet, these Wasatch Mountains offer another outdoor recreational activity: an elevated golf experience.
With several elite golf courses – 10 public and eight private – located within close proximity to The Chateaux Deer Valley, the possibility of enjoying this majestic alpine setting is available for all guests. Enjoy a legendary experience with memorable shots on some of Park City’s finest courses.
In Golf Digest’s 2017-18 top 10 ranking of “The Best Courses in Utah,” you will find five of the 10 located in Park City, most within a 15-minute drive time or less. Golf Digest ranks Utah’s top courses as follows:
1- Glenwild G.C., Park City
2- Victory Ranch, Kamas
3- Red Ledges G.C., Heber City
4- Promontory Club (Pete Dye Canyon), Park City
5- Talisker Club at Tuhaye, Park City
6- Promontory Club (Painted Valley), Park City
7- Entrada at Snow Canyon C.C., St. George
8- The Country Club, Salt Lake City
9- Sand Hollow Resort (Championship), Hurricane
10- Park Meadows C.C., Park City
If this Golf Digest list doesn’t convince you that Park City is the mecca for golf in the state of Utah, then the architects themselves should be enough to draw the attention of any golf obsessionist, or weekend warrior. Names like Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, Pete Dye, and Mark O’Meara are responsible for all five course designs around Park City in Golf Digest’s top 10 list.
If you are looking for more affordable options, but still wanting to find yourself putting to the backdrop of breathtaking mountain panoramas, meander down Parley’s Canyon and choose between the two courses at Mountain Dell. Or, drive 30 minutes south to Midway where three courses sit at the base of the towering Mount Timpanogos.
Did we mention mountain golf is played at altitude? Come inflate your ego a little. Many of our golf courses average around 7,000 feet above sea level or even higher. For most of us, that’s a one to two club difference! Watch your ball soar into the distance as the grandeur of the peaks attempts to steal your breath away.
Whether you want to hit the links at the bustling Park City Golf Club or take advantage of our golf summer package that gets you tee times at Promontory Club’s Pete Dye Canyon Course, there are options for you and your family or friends. It’s no wonder Park City has been revered as a burgeoning mountain golf destination

Cena Ristorante, located at The Chateaux Deer Valley, is opening later this week, and the kitchen is bustling with activity.
Executive Chef Chris Wellmon and his staff have been preparing for the May 4th reopening, the upcoming summer guests, and the creation of a new summer menu that starts May 24th. The new summer menu is sure to represent the culinary skill and craft of one of the finest kitchens in Deer Valley and Park City.
“The food tells the cooks’ stories,” Chef Wellmon said. “The food reflects the mentality of the kitchen.”
Chef Wellmon and team have been hard at work creating new summer dishes that are both locally-sourced and seasonally inspired, and sure to produce a community interest.
Finding the majority of his creative insight from well-known food blogs, Chef Wellmon seeks to create a seasonal menu of sophisticated Italian food that pushes the culinary envelope.
Don’t worry, the chef’s choice, Chicken Parmesan, and guest favorite, Cena Spaghetti & Meatballs, will both remain as regular menu items, as well as new creations that have been in the works for weeks as the team has perfected these dishes for the new menu.
Chef Wellmon and his team of excellent sous chefs and cooks begin the new menu process by brainstorming together. Once ideas are shared, the real fun begins. This developmental stage is when the chefs are at their best – drawing upon experience and having a willingness to risk as they create each new dish. Once the recipe is crafted, tested, and approved, the physical beauty of the dish is constructed until it is also perfected.
One such dish Chef Wellmon has creatively mastered is the Risotto Crab Cake. As an antipasto, this is sure to start your meal off right. Suggested by Chef Wellmon, the dish pairs well with arugula tossed with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and lemon wedges.
Chef Wellmon’s Risotto Crab Cakes:
Yields 10 two-ounce cakes
2 tbsp red pepper diced small
1 tsp garlic minced
1 tbsp shallots minced
8 oz Dungeness crab meat
¼ cup white wine
1 lemon zest each
1 tsp dijon mustard
½ tsp chili flakes
1 egg each
½ cup fresh focaccia bread minced
1 cup risotto cooked (preferably cooked with chicken stock without cheese)
¼ cup of olive oil
Sauté peppers, garlic, and shallots on medium heat until peppers are tender. Add white wine and continue to cook until the wine is reduced by more than half. Set aside and let cool. While the peppers, garlic, and shallots are cooling, add the remainder of the ingredients into a mixing bowl, then incorporate peppers, garlic, and shallots. Add all remaining ingredients and mix together. Be sure to not overmix. Portion crab mixture into 2-3 ounce cakes. Place on a nonstick pan over medium-high heat. When pan is hot, add the olive oil and cook cakes until golden brown on both sides.
Try this recipe at home or come in and allow us to cook this highlighted menu item for you. Call to make a reservation: (435) 940-2200. Along with the restaurant reopening May 4th, Cena will be offering a 2-for-1 dining option for those intrigued to try decadent dining.
Despite ski season coming to a close and mud season now in full effect, The Chateaux Deer Valley, along with Deer Valley and Park City, still provides plenty of reasons to come and enjoy this world-renowned mountain paradise nestled high in the Wasatch mountains.
