Pops of orange scatter the neighborhood streets as pumpkins make their annual porch step debut. The hillsides have transformed into a fiery yellow blaze, and the flickering street lamps take on a new foreboding gleam. Park City is always a fascinating place to explore, but this time of year is especially fun for embracing the more nefarious side of Park City’s colorful mining past. For a spooky adventure down Historic Main Street, there are no better guides than the knowledgeable team at Park City Ghost Tours.
The tour began promptly at 8pm, as it does every night. We were greeted by a welcoming guide named Kate. She was dressed in casual street attire. Park City Ghost Tours does not rely on dramatic costuming or theatrics to keep participants engaged. They are true storytellers, dedicated to sharing fascinating and historically-informed ghost stories. Each haunting tale has been thoroughly investigated and supported with witness accounts. Owners Rob and Lela Newey, retired history teachers, and Erik Hutchins, a expert on metaphysics and paranormal activity, have personally conducted meticulous research and field recordings to uncover each story.
The tour began with group introductions. Our eager bunch of eight or so participants were all excited to share in the ghostly fun. Kate set the stage with a brief history of Park City back in the rowdy mining days. It was a “sin city” with twenty-two saloons, a whole lot of boosy shenanigans, and a scattering of… untimely deaths. As Kate led us down Historic Main Street, she periodically stopped before significant sites to divulge the mysterious, supernatural, and downright scary occurrences that unfolded there. The tour boasts,
“If you are a believer in ghosts, you will hear some of the best ghost stories ever to come out of the west; and it you don’t believe in ghosts, prepare to have your mind changed! Come see for yourself!”
The team at Park City Ghost Tours works really hard to make this walking tour a special experience. For more information visit their website here, or book directly with our front desk: 435-658-9500
We highly recommend including this delightfully spooky tour in your vacation plans; just don't be surprised if you happen to see a ghost!
